Who we are
The Jarjeer Mule and Donkey Trust (“Jarjeer”, “we”, “us”) is a UK registered charity, number 1183446, supporting the Jarjeer Mule and Donkey Refuge in Morocco (Moroccan Association number 1512). This policy explains what information we collect through jarjeer.org, how we use it, and your rights over it.
Information we collect
We collect information in a small number of ways:
- When you donate. Donations made through this site are processed by Donorbox, PayPal, or the Charities Aid Foundation (CAF) — not by us directly. These providers handle your payment details (card number, billing address, etc.) on their own secure systems; we never see or store your full card details. Depending on the option you choose and whether you opt in to Gift Aid, we may receive your name, email address, postal address and donation amount from these providers in order to process your gift, issue receipts, and claim Gift Aid where applicable.
- When you subscribe to our newsletter. If you sign up for Jarjeer Field Notes, we collect your email address so we can send you our monthly update. Our newsletter is run through Brevo, who store and process subscriber details on our behalf.
- When you contact us. If you email us, message us on WhatsApp, or contact us via social media, we'll have whatever information you choose to share with us in that message (e.g. your name and email address).
- When you browse the site. Our video pages embed YouTube videos in “privacy-enhanced” mode, which limits cookies unless you actually play a video. If you do, YouTube (Google) may set its own cookies according to its own privacy policy, outside of our control.
How we use your information
- To process your donation and send you a confirmation or receipt
- To claim Gift Aid on eligible UK donations, where you've opted in
- To respond to questions or messages you send us
- To send you our newsletter, where you've subscribed or previously supported us
- To meet our legal, accounting and charity reporting obligations
We do not sell your information or share it with other organisations for their own marketing. Every newsletter we send includes an unsubscribe link, and you can opt out at any time — either by using that link or by emailing us directly.
Who we share it with
We share information only with the third parties needed to run the site, process donations and send our newsletter: Donorbox, PayPal, and CAF (for payments), Zoho (for our email hosting), and Brevo (for our newsletter). Each of these providers has its own privacy policy governing how they handle your data. We do not share your information with any other third party for marketing purposes.
How long we keep it
We keep donation and Gift Aid records for as long as required by UK charity and tax law (currently a minimum of 6 years). Newsletter subscriber details are kept until you unsubscribe, after which we retain only what's needed to make sure we don't email you again. Messages sent to us directly are kept only as long as needed to respond to and resolve your query.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law, you have the right to:
- Ask what personal information we hold about you
- Ask us to correct inaccurate information
- Ask us to delete your information, where we're not legally required to keep it
- Object to how we're using your information
To exercise any of these rights, contact us using the details below. You also have the right to complain to the UK's data protection regulator, the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time as the site changes. The date at the top shows when it was last revised.
