Gift Aid
Make your giving worth a quarter more, at no cost to you
If you pay UK tax, HMRC will add 25p to every £1 you give Jarjeer. It costs you nothing — the money comes from tax you have already paid. All we need is your permission to ask for it.
And it works backwards. One declaration covers everything you have given in the last four years as well as everything you give from now on. You will never be asked again.
What it pays for
A £10 monthly gift becomes £12.50. Over a year that is an extra £30 — roughly what it costs to keep one donkey in feed for a fortnight. Across everyone who gives to Jarjeer it is thousands of pounds a year, and not one penny of it comes out of anybody’s pocket.
Your declaration
Please use the address you pay tax at — HMRC matches the declaration to you by your name and postcode, so a work address or an old one will not do.
The small print, in plain words
- Does it cost me anything?
- No. Gift Aid is a repayment of tax you have already paid. Your donation stays exactly the same size.
- Do I have to be employed?
- No. Income tax and capital gains tax both count — including tax on a pension, on savings interest or on investments. What matters is that in each tax year you have paid at least as much tax as all the charities you support will reclaim on your giving.
- What if I stop paying tax?
- Email contact@jarjeer.org and we will cancel the declaration. Please do tell us — if we reclaim more than you have paid, HMRC asks you for the difference, not us, and we would much rather that never happened.
- I don’t live in the UK.
- Then Gift Aid will not apply, and there is nothing you need to do. Your donation is no less welcome for it — a good part of Jarjeer’s support comes from outside Britain.
- What do you do with my address?
- It is used for the Gift Aid claim and nothing else, and it is kept for as long as HMRC requires. We do not sell or share it. See our privacy policy.
